What is a boudoir photoshoot?
It is interesting how the concept of the word boudoir has changed throughout the years. The word is French in origin and is derived from the French verb bouder. This verb applies when somebody is getting angry, especially mildly but with an expression of disgust. The boudoir was originally a room for sulking. In time, the term was used to refer to a private woman’s room or bedroom. So, to get an answer to our original question: What is a boudoir photo shoot? let’s take a look at the following lines.
A little story about Boudoir.
During the prohibition era of the early 1920s, it was also illegal to take or possess nude or risqué photos. 20 years later, during WWII, when pin-up girls were used as propaganda to get men to join the army, the idea of these images become more accepted. Within another 10 to 20 years, the strict laws around sexual expression were being challenged and some sexual symbols started to emerge. One of the most iconic was Bettie Page who started posing for mail-order photography in 1952. She was the first famous bondage model in New York.
Marilyn Monroe, Ursula Andress, Raquel Welch, and Brigitte Bardot, were considered also Sex Symbols in the 1950s and 1960s.
Later on, glam shots started to be popular because Sports Illustrated Magazine used those images on its covers in the 80s. Since then the popularity of these images has grown exponentially.
It is probably because of this background that boudoir photography is so nuanced.
How Boudoir should be captured?
A photoshoot can be used in a lot of several situations. We can have a group or individual session; family or business reunion; bride-to-be or wedding session; etc. If you ever wonder if you can have your boudoir session, now is the time.
If we cling to the meaning of the word boudoir as the place where a woman can have time alone, in a room where she can be in her underwear or even naked, where she can empower herself and feel beautiful and sensual, then we will have for a result, a photo shoot of an attractive and passionate woman.
Up to these days, women ask for a Boudoir photoshoot not only in a bedroom but also in a place whit some voyeuristic overtones. This is up to everyone but, the original photos were taken in a woman’s private quarters, in private moments. The whole concept is to give the idea that nobody is, or will be, looking at her in that intimate moment.
