Do you regret of said “yes” to your boyfriend or girlfriend? The same criteria apply to this matter, so let’s find out if it is a good idea to have boudoir photos. Keep reading.

What is boudoir photography meaning?

You may already  have an idea of the meaning of boudoir photography. I am sure that you have had, by this time, visited several websites that talk about this but, Did you know that the original meaning of Boudoir is related to a room in the house? The boudoir was a small elegant woman’s bedroom or private room usually located between the dining room and the bedroom. It was used by ladies who wanted to be alone or talk to special friends.

It is because this room was used to have a relaxation time, that women normally took off some of the multiple layers of clothes that they used to be dressed in. That’s why Boudoir Photography is about women in their bedroom or bathroom, having a pleasant time in intimacy.

Of course, the time has changed and everything has evolved. Today you can have Boudoir photos almost anywhere. Well, we do not need to go too far; think about pictures of yourself being on a beautiful beach wearing nothing but your bikini. Of course that to be Boudoir, you need to wear a sexy lingerie set or, perhaps nothing at all.

The idea is to obtain beautiful and sensual photos where the lady projects peace and security by being in a place where she knows that no one is watching her.

What do you wear to a boudoir photo shoot?

According to Adobe, there are at least 28 genres of photography. If we talk about the ones related to people, you can find at least seven or eight genres. In some of these, clothing plays a very important role. Can you imagine a sports photo shoot where everyone is wearing formal suits? Kind of weird don’t you think? 

Well, the same happens with the boudoir. In my other blog: “What should I wear for my boudoir photoshoot?”, I give you some ideas but, in general, a Boudoir photoshoot is about being and feeling sexy while wearing little or nothing of clothes.

It is always that little voice inside our heads, telling us that we do not have the gorgeous bodies that we see in magazines or on websites. Do not worry! That is one of the main ideas of the Boudoir Photoshoot. You will see your inner beauty and you will feel all the power within this genre of photography.

Still not sure about your Boudoir session?

It can happen that undressing to lingerie in front of a stranger can give you bad dreams if you are shy or do not feel 100% confident in your body.

My recommendation? Practice some poses in front of a mirror and take some pictures with your cellphone. You can wear your sexiest lingerie or your bikini. (Anyway, if you come to Puerto Vallarta, we can do a photo shoot on the beach as well)

Start with poses that you feel comfortable with. Right now it is not important if the result doesn’t look amazing. If you feel ok with that, you can turn up the heat. The general idea is that you see for yourself which poses make you feel good, seductive, empowered, and sexy.

Once you have found your best angle, you will have material to analyze with your professional photographer. She, or he, will give you an expert opinion, and together you can plan a very smooth and comfortable session. 

10 poses for boudoir photography.

I am going to explain ten poses that you can try. Remember that there are three different levels of body exposure and you can adjust every one of these poses according to your preferences. Some of this will require the assistance of somebody to take the shoot or, you can use the timer on your phone.

1 The traditional lying down on your stomach in bed.

The bed is the place where you can have power and control. Think of this place as your domain. With this position, you can be as naked as you want. There are several variations without revealing too much and you have the opportunity to show off the curves of your body.

2 Lying back with your legs up.

Once you are in bed. You can have your legs stand vertically on the headboard. You can do this also on the floor with your legs against a wall. If you lay your hands above your head, you will stretch the skin on the abdomen.

3 Cross-legged on the bed.

This pose will give the sense of a lazy morning with your partner. It is more casual and creates a bond between the model and the viewer. Clothing is optional and you can use the bedsheets to cover whatever you want. You can have a mischievous look towards the camera or be completely turned away, somewhat unaware of the scene.

4 Raise your arms straight above your head.

This is a relaxed position denoting the “morning after”. When you keep your arms straight above your head, your neck and torso will elongate. This makes them look slim while pushing out your chest.

5 Arched back against a wall.

This pose creates beautiful shapes and curves. It is not an easy pose but you will look and feel sexy. Raise your arms above your head and lean your shoulders against the wall. Bent your knees almost like in a squat position and you can direct your gaze to the floor or directly to a window.

6 Sitting with your knees covering your chest.

This is an excellent pose to try if you are willing to have a fully nude boudoir photo. You can sit on your bed or, on the floor. Bring your knees to your chest, cross your feet and wrap your arms around your knees. If you feel comfortable, you can place your arms behind you and lean on them. Your crossed legs and feet will cover all the intimate parts and leave everything to the viewer’s imagination.

7  Touch your hair with one hand and use the other to cover your breast.

This pose allows you to be nude but partially covered. It can be a very sensual photo and you are not showing too much. This photo can be taken from the navel to the head or, if you want, it can be a full-body if you are wearing sexy panties.

8 Sitting on the edge of your bed, with your back to the camera.

This is another sexy pose. You can be naked or, with a sexy panty. The viewer will appreciate your back and you can turn your face looking to your shoulder or not turn at all. Keep your back straight and, you can have your arms down or straight above your head.

9 The silhouette one.

If you want the viewer to use lots of imagination, you can ask for a picture in front of a window creating high contrast. You can wear something or nothing at all. There is no explicit detail but a lot of suggestions.

10 Removing your top.

This pose has a lot of variants. It gives a sense of energy if you remove your top with a strong action or, also you can slowly unbutton your sweater or blouse. You can be facing the camera or showing your back.

Put together your ideas and go for it.
