Can I Have my Boudoir Portfolio?
Some time ago, I was having a pleasant talk with a very nice woman. At a certain moment, she diverted her gaze to the cup of coffee she was holding in her hands, she paused briefly and I could see that she mustered the courage to ask the question: Can I have a boudoir portfolio?
What does boudoir mean?
According to Cambridge Dictionary, Boudoir is defined as:
noun [ C ]
UK /ˈbuːd.wɑːr/ US /ˈbuːd.wɑːr/
a beautifully decorated room used in the past by a woman for sleeping, dressing, relaxing, and entertaining.
As claimed by the description, the boudoir was a room, part of the house. Today we use the concept as a whole image of intimacy.
You can have a boudoir session not only indoors but outdoors too. The whole idea is to capture sensual images of an empowered woman, having fun.
Can you have a boudoir portfolio? Of course, you can! Do you need to have a model body? Certainly not!
The basic requirement, however, is that you feel great with yourself. Obviously, there is a sequence to follow in order to get ready for a great photo shoot. Maybe you would like to read my blog to know how to prepare for your session. Anyway, what about if we talk about the idea.
How to pose in a boudoir photoshoot?
This is probably the first question that will assault you once you have decided to schedule your boudoir session. Do not worry! Remember that models have been doing this for years and after a long time of studying. You are not looking for something like this, you are looking to release your inner beauty, empower yourself, to have fun with this session!
It might be the case that you are one of those people that will naturally work the camera with minimal direction. If you are not like this, I will guide you through different options for you to feel sensational!
It will help a lot if you analyze yourself in front of a full-body mirror in the intimacy of your house. Wear that lingerie that makes you feel comfortable and sexy and, discovers the angle of your body that you will want to emphasize.
To help you with this, let us talk a little beat about some tips that you can try at home:
10 poses for boudoir photography
Try every one of these poses to see if you feel comfortable with your image. It might be some parts of your body that you do not want to reveal and it will be great to know them. Once you detect those areas, you can talk with your photographer to work on them. Remember that the beauty of having a boudoir session in Puerto Vallarta is that we can have it in your place, the jungle, or the beach, do not limit your imagination. Here we go!
1. Fix your hair.
This can be done with short or long hair. The idea is to lift both your arms as if you are fixing your hair. If you wear a loose top or a sweater, you will add an extra element to play with.
2. Lying on your back parallel to the photographer.
This one is an excellent option. Arch your back slightly to give your body a nice curve. You can pose one leg straight and bend the other or, bend one leg and the other crossed over on top of it.
3. Lying on your back perpendicular to the photographer.
You can do this one lying back on your bed. Your head hanging down, giving a view of your neck and bust. There are several options that we can try.
4. Side-Lying with upper body on high.
This pose looks very natural. Lie down on your side with your lower arm giving support to your upper body. Play with your legs and free arm to find your pose. Anyway, when we will be in location, we can try different options.
5. Sitting on the floor.
You can be directly on the floor or on a cushion. Look straight forward to your mirror. Legs crossed in front of you and you can hold them with your arms. This pose allows you to be totally naked, topless, or with your lingerie. Because the photo does not reveal much, you will build a strong and confident feeling with this picture.
6. Sitting side-lying on the floor.
Again, you can be on a cushion or directly on the floor. Bend one knee and keep the other one straight. Support your upper body with your arm extended and use the other arm to fix your hair, for example.
7. Three-quarter backward to the camera.
This is another pose that allows you to decide how many clothes you want to wear. Try to see this pose by helping yourself with a hand mirror. You can turn your head back a little beat but, you will discover that, if you turn too much, unwanted lines may appear.
8. Standing, leaning on a railing.
You can try leaning on a railing or something similar. If you stand on your toes, the legs look more stylized. Check out if you like to be on your side or with your body a little rotated to give more emphasis to your buttocks.
9. Kneeling.
A very simple but powerful pose. You can kneel on your bed or something comfortable. During this test session in front of your mirror, you will have to look at it, for sure. Being in your boudoir session, you can look slightly away from the camera.
As in every pose, there are options that we can explore.
10. On all fours.
Being on all fours depends entirely on you. Even when this can be a very sexy pose, you have to feel completely comfortable with it. You can be parallel to your mirror or, change the angle little by little to find the one you like the most.
Take notes and/or photos with your cell phone.
Once you have decided which poses you like the most, make a list of them and contact me to talk about your options.
Of course, these are only a few poses that can be on camera. If you are bold or athletic, we can capture that on your boudoir portfolio. The whole idea is that you feel proud and confident with your pictures.
